Birding Our Way to Conservation
Join WAEE for a Bird-a-Thon Event Near You
Join WAEE this year for the Natural Resources Foundation Great Wisconsin Birdathon! If you saw our previous webinar, you may have some idea what we are referring to. If not, don’t worry, let's catch you up.
The Great Wisconsin Birdathon by NRF is put on each spring to raise funds for bird conservation in the state. Non-profits and classrooms can create a team, bird, and raise funds that are split 50/50 with NRF. Our team “Sandhill Craniums” is now open to birds statewide by WAEE members and friends. We are raising money on WAEE’s side to provide a low-cost opportunity for a bird educator workshop this fall! Every dollar here ripples across educators we reach state wide in educating about birds.
How to get involved:
- Join the WAEE Team here.
- Pledge a set amount or based on the number of bird species we see.
- Bird on your own or engage in one of the free networking events below over the next 2 months to bird together!
- Record your observations for the team by June 15.
Join WAEE for an event around the state:
- May 4 - North Lakeland Discovery Center, Manitowish Waters
- May 9 - Mascoutin Valley Recreation Trail, Rush Lake
- May 16 - Picnic Point, Madison
Join an event to celebrate Black Birders Week:
The Zoological Society of Milwaukee, Havenwoods Neighborhood Partnership, and BIPOC Birding Club of Wisconsin are teaming up for feather-filled family fun and to celebrate Black Birders Week! Black Birders Week was started in 2020 to celebrate Black joy in nature.
- May 28 includes a field trip at the Milwaukee County Zoo.
- May 30 at Havenwoods State Forest includes a bird walk and family activities from 10 am to 2 pm. Families can make bird feeders, fly through a bird migration obstacle course, and learn about famous Black birders and scientists.
All above opportunities are available for members and nonmembers.
